PROGRAM DESIGN: Coporate gallery for The Port Workspaces

Beginning in 2017, I created a gallery and corporate art program for the Port Workspaces. This includes exhibitions and events at the coworking space's four buildings in Downtown Oakland. Here are examples of a few of the exhibits.

During March and April 2018 The Port Workspaces' City Center gallery showed of 60-years worth of students from the Junior Center of Art and Science. Dedicated to all the children of the East Bay, the Junior Center encourages children's active wonder and creative responses through artistic and scientific exploration of their natural environment.

Skillful and imaginative, the exhibited artwork reflects the Center’s robust and diverse programming and will be pulled from The Center's extensive archive housed at Mills College in Oakland.

During January and February 2018 The Port Workspaces' City Center Gallery showed work by Oakland photographer and art teacher Asual Aswad.

I am making art again, and was a featured artist in the Flight Deck inaugural exhibit, Just Ripe on display June 6-July 20, 2014 (see show announcement below).

I had several pieces including this one which is a series of photo transfers on wood and photographs.

NEWS: Flight Deck Business Development

Since 2012, I worked with Ragged Wing Ensemble to create a new art space in downtown Oakland called the Flight Deck. Specifically, I partnered with Executive Director, Anna Schneiderman, to conduct a feasibility study and write a business plan with an innovative share model for paying the rent and creating collaborative programming. The project provided a vehicle for me to use my urban planning expertise to work with the developers, architects and community partners to bring the concept from an idea to fruition. We led a team of six staff in a $300,000 fundraising effort. I played a key role in working with the City of Oakland to secure a matching grant through their Redevelopment program. We, as a group, ran a successful crowd-funding campaign through Indiegogo that raised $50,000. In addition to developing the business model, I also designed and maintain the Flight Deck website, serve as the Flight Deck Manager and am a contributing member of the social media and blogging team.

The project was profiled in the San Francisco Chronicle, on the cover of the Datebook, and in the East Bay Express. Additionally, the Flight Deck was voted best new venue, only one month after opening, by the readers of the East Bay Express.

VIDEO PRODUCTION: The Alameda County Arts Commission

In 2013 I helped, as a Project Coordinator, to produce a series of videos for the Alameda County Arts Commission about original works on display at the new Highland Care Pavilion at the Highland Hospital campus in Oakland. I had the pleasure of working with an amazing videographer, Maggie Simpson Adams, and a very talented group of artists. NEWS: Press Democrat Article on At Risk Report

In 2012 Brett Wilkison, from the  the Press Democrat, interviewed me about Greenbelt Alliance's research for the At Risk Report: The Bay Area Greenbelt 2012. The report gives a snapshot of working farms and natural areas facing sprawl development pressure in the nine counties. I provided research support to Adam Garcia who led the project.
